Woody Point Sunset

Today I went along to a Brisbane Camera Club Meetup at Woody Point with plans to take some awesome sunset shots (and maybe some timelapses too).  After a day with loads of fabulous clouds, I was looking forward to a great sunset… However, on the drive out – the clouds promptly disappeared, so I was not expecting much of a sunset at all…

But, I did manage to do some timelapses, and ended up with a great series of Sunset Silhouettes which I am pretty happy with.

Here are some of my favourites of the day….

TimeLapse Video

The video below is a sequence of two TimeLapses taken at Woody Point (Brisbane) on a beautiful (but cloudless) Sunday.  Often the best sunsets occur when there are clouds around, but this timelapse shows the changing colours in the sky as the sun sets.

Gold Coast Q1 60th Floor – “The Ultimate”

Week 2 at Q1 and I am moving to a different apartment which they call “The Ultimate”….. I thought the first apartment was amazing… but this one is actually bigger and also has sweeping views of the beaches to the north and south and an open courtyard with views over the Gold Coast hinterland…. If the weather holds out, I am looking forward to lots of great slider/pan/tilt timelapse sunsets.

Here are some initial shots of “The Ultimate” :

Gold Coast Q1 60th Floor

I am living/working from the Gold Coast for a couple of weeks –  a great opportunity to catch some sea air, and get some photos in and around the Gold Coast (especially some Surfer Photos).  I managed to get an awesome deal on a Penthouse at Q1 (Australia’s tallest residential building) and took a few quick shots before I moved too much of my stuff in and messed it up 🙂

Brisbane Ekka – Rides & Fireworks – Aug 2014

Here is a selection of photos from a brief trip to the Brisbane Ekka :

Event Photo Shoot – St Judes Charity Fashion Parade

The School of St Jude is an incredible school in Tanzania, established by Australian – Gemma Sisia – to “fight Poverty through Education”.  Each year they select the brightest students from the poorest of the poor in Tanzania, and “support” them through am amazing education programme – from primary thruugh to tertiary qualifications.

I was asked to shoot the St Judes Charity  Fashion Parade by organiser Bernice Kelly – who did an amazing job coordinating a very successful event.

Events like this are challenging to photograph because the lighting is of low “mood” lighting.  This means that you almost always have to use a flash, which can be a bit of a distraction to attendees… You also rarely get an opportunity to setup shots and re-takes are virtually impossible as well.

Here are some of my favourite shots from the night :

Abbey Medieval Festival and Tournament – July 2014

The Abbey Medieval Festival is an annual, week-long event, held at The Abbey Museum in Caboolture.  This is Australia’s largest Medieval Re-eanactment events- with a Tuornment, Jousts and many re-enactment groups representing a wdie rnage if medieval eras.

This event offers a feast of photographic opportunities…. with plenty of medieval costumes (not just the participants but a large portion of the crowd getd dressed up as well), lots of shiny armour, bright banners and plenty of activity.

Jewellery Photo Shoot – What About Wolfie

I was asked to do some studio portrait/product shots for “What about Woflie” – a range of unique, handmade jewellery by Brisbane based designer Courtmney Spinelli.  This shoot was coordinated by Stylist Shannon and thanks also to models Mara and Cartia. 🙂

Product Shoot – Chiller 2 Go

I did a quick product shoot this morning – just basics – natural light with a fill flash – for “Chiller 2 Go” and neoprene cover for water bottles and a cool (sorry about the pun) idea to keep fruit protected and cool.  The brief was to promote the product for teenage girls  and young women “on the go”.  Here are a few of my favourites (Thanks Shannon & Miranda) :

World Refugee Day Community Festival – June 2014

I went along to photograph the World Refugee Cup for Footy Photos – not realising that the footbal was actually just a small part of the annual World Refugee Day Community Festival being held at Annerley Football Club (Brisbane).

This  event is a bright, active and vibrant multicultural festival, with loads of different food stalls (I’ve never seen so many different African foods) and many people celebrating their national dress – a photographers dream really – so I ended up staying most of the day – here are some of my favourite shots :

Eat Street Markets

Eat Street Markets is a Day/Night Markets at Hamilton Wharf.  It is an ec lectic mix of eateries and stores, with an emphasis on street food and live music.  These markets are open Friday and Saturday nights (4-10) and Sundays (11-7), and can get VERY busy  – particularly around dinner time.
